Haven’t posted in a while but I’ve been working! I’ve been doing some pieces in a ghost series (those are uploaded on the website) as well as some little drawings. They will all be in a show in January for our monthly trolley night.  here’s a little drawing I’m working on framing

I'm trying to come up with a title for this series.

The whole idea of these works has to do with memory (and lack-of), nostalgia, etc. It began with the way you forget someone's face after so long. You remember that they had a beard and blue eyes, but you forget how many inches there are between their eyes or where their freckles lay. It's the same way as how in dreams you can't make out faces. You get a sense of a specific individual, but you can never lay your eyes on their face and focus on details. It's exactly like the scene in Eternal Sunshine when Joel sees Clementine at the bookstore and Patrick is there (after Clementine erased Joel). When Joel is going back to that time in his memory, Patrick's face never looks at him, it's just fast moving flesh tone.

I've made work rooted in emotion before, but it was all very thought out, as if I was building these memories and these spaces, but these works are a little more sporadic. They stem from a very deep place of loss. Instead of building memories, I am pulling out ghosts, maybe even creating them.

Progress

I've taken this new piece in a completely (well, aesthetically.. Not conceptually) different direction than originally planned. Here's the progress.

New work

I'm starting some new stuff. Not completely sure where it's going, but it has to do with forgotten lovers, and the way you forget details of someone's face when they're far enough in your past. I do, at least.

Here's the start of the first one. Something about it needs to change, but I'm just letting it do its process. We'll see where it ends up!

I've been working on lots of new stuff for a show on April 22nd. I've super into clean, white backgrounds.

I didn't know how else to add this video other than a link, so here it is on youtube.

I've wanted to do this series for a while, but for some reason I've been putting it off. I had the idea of the physical structure, but I think I wasn't sure what content to add. My conceptual work always leads back to some sort of illusion or perspective theme. This is because I want to talk about the way we create and archive memories, or even the way we process moments. It all depends on our perspective in the situation. When we're young, our idea of reality is not true, our brains can't process everything and the complexities of life, so when as adults we go back and think of our childhood memories, we usually note that the way we remember things is kind of silly and doesn't make much sense. The same goes when we're blinded with love or lust or hate.

This series has to do with perception vs. reality. It's loosely put because it could go so many ways, and I want it to be universally applicable.

Here's an in progress of my first little study.

Detail

I'm excited to get this baby varnished once it dries. Then to frame and off to a little show for an art walk in November!
